A Message from Doris: Concerned Clientele

To my long time clients, attendees of our Deltek User Groups, our Macintosh “believers”, MYOB and Master Builder contributors…Thank you for calling in and supporting our firm. It’s more important than ever that small and mid sized companies collaborate and make certain accounting and software needs are being met.

Each day our firm receives a wide array of feedback about what is on our clients and prospects minds. Most of that feedback ends up to me via the clients calling or meeting with staff. Our small businesses are concerned with accounting software companies recent trends and it is costing them money. DMC is an independent voice and when I speak it is done so with the client in mind. We report to our clients, not the major accounting manufacturers. We answer to the client. Not Intuit, Deltek, or Sage. We endorse their products, and do not exonerate them for wholesome criticism.

Our role is to raise awareness of what seems to be a disconcerting trend: to “force upgrade" client software with unsure practice and reason. What I mean by “force upgrade” are the following points, all of which should be reevaluated by software companies:

  • They are not supporting older versions beyond 2 years. Changing accounting software is typically a 3 to 5 year cycle; it’s too disruptive to operations for constant change.
  • Maintenance plans should cover upgrades as contracted. However, upgrades now become new product instead of an upgrade.
  • Licensing seems now like short term rental agreements. Not issuing replacement parts i.e. cds after one year, maybe two.
  • Keep your CDs, don’t lose your license codes. Must download cd now. Demand your hard copy of media
  • Creating software seems to always takes longer to load, needing new machinery and new OS.
  • 2 year old software can barely keep pace with compatibility of other software. i.e Outlook and Word and Excel.
  • Mergers cause good product to typically receive a death row sentence.
  • Mergers reduce competition, raise price and reduce quality.
If clients are concerned, we are concerned. Know DMC supports old versions and machinery to run accounting. Accounting is over 400 years old. If you can’t afford all of this change and you just need to focus on your company making money, then call us and we can advise. Thanks to MYOB for being the one firm who stands apart.

Solving Duplicate Entries

DMC is integrating solutions that matter. We listen. We save your company money.

We understand the need to streamline accounting and eliminate duplicate entries. When multiple software integration issues pose obstacles that the average user is not able to tackle, we are there to solve. It is no simple task to coordinate multi platform technologies. Especially when payroll software companies, accounting software manufacturers, and banks have each positioned themselves out of range when it comes to solving people’s duplicate entry concerns.RD Kimball Engineers, a long time client of DMC Accounting + Technology, engaged us to solve for their “double entry” problem. Timesheets and expense reports were being replicated to their outside payroll service for processing, and the client needed a better way to manage these components. Laura DePalma, the firm’s managing principal of this growing firm, is always seeking out the best practices and often turns to DMC Accounting + Technology for assistance.

DMC helped RD Kimball integrate the payroll bridge to effectively upload timesheets to their outside payroll service. Expense reports no longer need double keypunch, and are now effectively transferred to their bank institution via direct deposit.

We find that our clients need look hard at their existing technologies to maximize their software investment. Eliminating double entry is a permanent cost savings technique, and can often utilize existing owned technologies making the information more timely and accurate. We would like to thank Laura for her trust and confidence in our firm and staff dedicated to this project.

Success Story

Levi Wong Design, a growing Architectural firm in Concord, Massachusetts, services the landscape, interior, and urban design sectors. Tom Levi, principal of Levi Wong, contacted our offices for help in deploying a Deltek accounting and timekeeping project for their exclusively Macintosh based network.

At DMC, we encourage our clients to use solutions to support the Apple platform, but in the same vane we are aware that solutions for mid-range Project Accounting on the Macintosh are few. Most manufacturers of project accounting solutions do not natively support their applications on the MAC.

We listen to clients and work through the mazes of technical solutions to deliver results. With Tom Levi’s commitment we were able to deliver the answer. All employees at Levi Wong are now able to enter their timesheets directly into their Deltek product, perform accounting and view management reports from their Macintosh computers. It took a significant joint effort to accomplish this, so I would like to thank Peter Blaikie for his technical research, Rebecca Fritsch for her client support, Paul Koscenski, Network Engineer, from Aegis Associates, and Kathy Bautz, Office Manager for Levi Wong who tirelessly supported us in the process. These folks helped work through the maze of technical guides, version madness, routers and worked through a variety of cross-platform challenges. Great job!
